Take a Break!

Everyone needs a break every once in a while! I don't know anyone who balks at a chance to go take a nap or go on break when their boss asks them to, but, what if we're not taking the break we need? I was preparing for a Sunday School lesson this past weekend and had an idea. Don't worry, it isn't one of those "I've found something no one ever has before, and it's the secret to life!" I was reading in Leviticus and about the various Sabbaths God ordained for his people. Every seven days, he wanted them to take a day off for Him, every seven years, they were to do no work and dedicate themselves to Him, He assured them He would provide enough for them in the sixth year that they wouldn't need to grow crops in the seventh year. In addition to these, every forty-ninth year, they were to take the year of Jubilee. Seems to be a lot of resting and dedication according to me!

So, as a Christian, you probably take Sunday off so that you can go to church. Is that enough, though? After all, as soon as we're out of services, we tend to go home and work on something all Sunday afternoon instead of resting and focusing our day on God, as he intended. I am guilty of going home after the morning service and cracking out some homework instead of doing some Bible reading, praying, or just resting. If the only reason our Sundays look different than the weekdays is due to the services we dress up for, perhaps we need to change our approach to one that is more lax.

Consider this and your Sunday, and see if you need to de-structure your Sundays so that you can properly refocus on God and what He's done for us.
