What is Your Digital Blueprint?

I heard comments of "I was tired, I was going to go to sleep when I came in, but then he started preaching, and I was like 'No way I'm gonna sleep!" following last night's prayer meeting. Evangelist Adrian Burden got the attention of thousands of students, including the hundreds who would normally be fast asleep during church. Evangelist Burden spoke powerfully on surety of salvation, and for one of the first times I noticed students paying attention. I was excited to hear that he would be leading chapel today and tomorrow.

As he walked into chapel today he announced that he might step on some toes with his message. To sum up his very passionate message in one sentence is doing it an injustice, but for sake of time, I will try.

As a Christian, what are you doing to insure that your life, and specifically, your digital and social media blueprint, is showing and glorifying God's name?

For those of us who claim to have given our lives to Christ, how are we demonstrating the act of giving it to Him? If all we do is "pray the prayer" and show up for Sunday services, then we are simply using God as a means of insurance. Hardly fit considering God's dedication to our relationship with Him. I imagine all my readers can visualize a proper relationship between husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, brother/sister, or parent/sibling. For any of these relationships to work correctly, both sides need to be contributing. The same is true for our relationship with God; we need to invest in that relationship for it to operate correctly.

As well as both sides needing to invest in a relationship, both sides need to respect one another. If (big emphasis on the if) I were to have a girlfriend, and I knew that she loved children, and enjoyed painting, I would not go around hating children, dis Leonardo da Vinci, and speak about how my girlfriend had really had a difference on my view of children and art. This would be painting the wrong image of her, and disrespecting her and her values. Now let's apply this.

Are you painting the wrong image of the one who you should love above all????

Do your social media, texts, emails, and PMs reflect this love of God? Or are they reflecting values that God hates? Our relationship with God CAN NOT be right if we are supporting and openly promoting things that He hates! Are the images we share, the memes we post, the videos we watch, and the shows and movies we promote edifying and glorifying to God?

Ephesians 4:29 says this; "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."

Not only does this apply to that which we speak, but also to what we share online!

Take these thoughts, and let them influence what you're doing on the web. I'm not saying don't enjoy cheesy cat videos if that's your thing, and you're not letting it become a distraction to you, but filter what you watch and share. I'm warning you, to change what you're sharing, you're going to have to change what you're viewing and listening to.

Matthew 12:34 "..... for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh."

What we fill our mind and heart with, is what is going to come out. Again, not only from your mouth, but also through your social media.

At least do me the courtesy of giving a little bit of thought to this. Trust me, it's worth it. And, if you're like me and aren't a social media nut, find another area you can apply this in! I'm sure there's one, because none of us are perfect!

Anyway, signing off for now,

Tex
