So, I'm plowing ahead at a good pace in the book. I have actual content written and the story is growing! As expected, when you write a book, your traits tend to come through....... it's almost a way of saying "This is my work!" As one of my more prominent characteristics is humor, I've already written my first prank. :-) I decided I wanted to share something, so, here's a small excerpt including part of a humorous scene. Hope you enjoy it, and that's it's not too crazy! Enjoy!
“Would you pass the syrup?” Julia asked as she stacked a couple more pieces of French toast on her plate.
“Sure.” Frank agreed. As he reached for the syrup, he saw the apple cider sitting next to the syrup in a similar container. “No, way it would work.” He muttered under his breath as he got an idea. He glanced at Julia who was chatting with Erin. As he picked up the cider, he caught a glance from Mrs. Stone, who winked at him. He smiled at her before passing the cider quietly to Julia.
“Thanks.” Julia said without looking away from Erin. Glancing quickly down at her plate before looking back at Erin, she tipped the jar without looking. Erin suddenly realized that she had the cider when a large portion of the cider splashed onto the plate.
“Whoa!” She reached forward and grabbed the cider from Julia.
“What?! I can’t believe I did that.” Julia turned to Frank as she realized she had been pranked. “Frank!!!”
“Uh, yes?” Frank turned to look at her without cracking a grin. His eyebrows were raised, and he looked perfectly innocent. Julia now doubted that he had done it and looked confused.
“Did you mean to give me the cider?” Julia pointed at the jug in Erin’s hand.
Frank’s eyes popped open in apparent realization as he looked at the jug. “Oh! Wow!” He let down his guard for a minute and his eyes twinkled.
“You did, too! That was on purpose! You can eat this.” Julia picked up her plate and slid the French toast onto Frank’s,
“I’ve already had eight! I’m full!” Frank protested. By now, everyone else was laughing and watching on with amusement.
“Maybe you should have thought of that before you handed me the wrong one, Bucko! It’s not my fault you have a delicate stomach.” Julia helped herself to three more pieces of French toast before getting out of her chair to walk down the table and grab the syrup.
What do you think? Is it too unlikely this would occur? Should I add anything else to the scene? Let me know below!
Until later,
Austin
